Overview

Yes, this is the season where they finally tell you who killed Rosie Larsen. The first year of The Killing famously refused to, and viewers were furious — so this one arrives with a debt to pay and a lot of trust to win back. To its credit, it mostly earns it. Mireille Enos's Linden was supposed to be on a plane out of Seattle; instead she stays to finish what she started, dragging her own wreckage behind her. Joel Kinnaman's Holder, recovering from a beating and fighting his own demons, turns into the partner she never wanted and the only person she trusts. The investigation burrows into city hall, the waterfront, and the Larsen family's own secrets, while Stan Larsen (Brent Sexton) — still the show's broken heart — keeps finding new ways to grieve wrong. Darren Richmond's campaign stumbles on under a fog of suspicion. Seattle looks as wet and grey as ever, and the mood is heavy going, but the back half tightens beautifully as the suspects burn away one by one. The final answer, when it comes, is sadder than it is shocking. Which, you realise, was the point all along.
