The Gilded Age Season 3
Overview
Bertha Russell finally gets her duke, and season three is largely about what it costs her to keep him. Carrie Coon's Bertha has set her sights on marrying daughter Gladys to the Duke of Buckingham, and Gladys's misery at being traded like railroad stock gives the season real teeth — mother and daughter have never been further apart. George (Morgan Spector), meanwhile, is out west gambling the family fortune on railroads and mining, which means the Russells' perfect Newport surface is cracking from both sides at once. Across the street there's a quieter coup: after inheriting money, Cynthia Nixon's gentle Ada is now head of the household, and Christine Baranski's Agnes does not take demotion gracefully — their scenes together are the show at its very best. Marian and Larry's slow-burn romance finally starts moving, Peggy (Denée Benton) gets a Newport storyline and a doctor who's actually worth her time, and the costumes, honestly, deserve their own billing at this point.
