Avengers: Infinity War
Overview
Avengers: Infinity War is a 2018 superhero film directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the 19th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film brings together nearly every hero in the MCU to face their greatest threat yet: Thanos (Josh Brolin), a powerful, genocidal warlord who wants to collect all six Infinity Stones. With the Stones, he can snap his fingers and wipe out half of all life in the universe. The film follows several groups of heroes as they try to stop Thanos. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Spider-Man (Tom Holland), and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) are on the planet Titan, trying to take the Time Stone from Thanos. Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) are in Wakanda, protecting the Mind Stone, which is embedded in the head of the android Vision (Paul Bettany). Thor (Chris Hemsworth) travels to Nidavellir to forge a new weapon, Stormbreaker. The film is a tragedy. Thanos succeeds in collecting all six Stones, and he snaps his fingers. Half of the heroes are turned to dust, including Spider-Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and most of the Guardians of the Galaxy. The film ends with Thanos watching a sunset on a peaceful planet, having achieved his goal. Avengers: Infinity War was a massive critical and commercial success, earning over $2 billion worldwide. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. The film is a bold, shocking, and emotionally devastating blockbuster.
